Homemade Rose Water & Rose Serum

I discovered serums and floral waters when I started to gather more information on organic makeup and natural skin care. Since then I was fascinating with creating my own and simple serums to nourish my skin. So here I share with you two of my favorites.

Homemade Rose Water

[custom_frame_right shadow=”on”]rose water1[/custom_frame_right] Rosewater can be used as a toner, by itself as a skin refresher or you can use it in various DIY recipes like this DIY makeup remover. Because it is homemade and does not contain any preservatives you will have to refrigerate it in order to keep it for a longer period of time like several weeks or even months. They’re more refreshing if stored in the refrigerator, however if you can find a cool place, far from heat and direct sunlight this might work as well. Okay, so here we go. One last thing to mention is to make sure you use fresh rose petals if possible since you will use these on your skin and I am sure you don’t want any chemicals and pesticides in them.

You will need: several cups (3to 5 ) rose petals, distilled water and a pot.

Wash your petals and place them on the bottom of the pot. Then pour distilled water on top until your pot is almost full of water. If the petals don’t sink in you can place a plate to weight them down. Afterwards, turn on the heat and leave it on medium. You do not want the water to boil as this might make the petals to disintegrate and the nutrients might be lost as well. So leave the heat on medium and let it simmer for around 40 to 60 minutes. You know it is done when the water will take on the color of the petals. Now you can separate the water from the petals, place the water in a glass jar and let it cool. Refrigerate after.

Homemade Rose Serum

For the serum you will need : 15ml argan oil, 5 ml apricot oil or jojoba oil works very good as well, 5-6 drops of Rosa Damascena oil and santal oil. All of these are very rich in nutrients and excellent emollients for the skin.

You can refrigerate if you plan to use on a longer period of time.  After cleaning the skin massage it with the oils. This will help to tone and hydrate the skin while giving it a glowing and fresh aspect. It is recommended for all types of skin and especially for tired skin that needs special care and love.
