Why you should clean your face with the oil cleansing method

When I first heard about the oil cleansing method I was very skeptical since I was using the same 3 steps procedure we all see in drugstore products such as foaming facial cleansing or cream, toner and then moisturizer cream. All of these used to cause dry skin and make it prone to redness and irritation until I discovered this method.

What is the oil cleansing method?

[custom_frame_right shadow=”on”]oil[/custom_frame_right]  Oil cleansing refers to the idea of using natural oils to naturally clean the skin and remove its impurities without damaging skin’s natural barrier. When we clean our skin we need to avoid products that remove excessively the natural oils. When the skin is deprived of these natural oils it tries to compensate and it starts producing more and more oil which can be the cause of oily skin over time. Several people may think that cleaning the face with oil will actually make their skin oilier that will clog out the pores and cause blackheads or whiteheads. However, the natural oils actually dissolve the impurities from the pores leaving the face clean. For better results you can use this with a steam bath which will open your pores, allowing the oil to be easily removed.

What to use?

[custom_frame_right shadow=”on”]olive[/custom_frame_right] You basically need two types of oils. The first is castor oil which has anti-inflammatory properties. Due to the fact castor oil has a very thick consistency it has to be diluted with another oil with a very light consistency such as cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil or sunflower oil. The proportions in which you use both of these oils is up to you. You can experiment and see what works best for your skin. They can be 30%-70% for oily skin, 20-80% for normal skin and 10-90% for dry skin.

 What to Do:

You can use this method at night before your go to sleep. In the shower or at the bathroom sink, pour a little amount of the oil blend in your palms and then massage it into your skin. For even better results you can even warm up the oil in a tablespoon for 10 to 20 seconds beforehand. Massage for a few minutes and when you think all impurities have been cleaned you can use a clean washcloth soaked in very hot water and place it on your face. Be careful not to burn yourself though! This will warm up the face and will help eliminate the oils and impurities.

Afterwards you can leave the wash cloth on until it cools. It will give you a very refreshing look. Usually, after this you will not need to apply any creams or moisturizer but if you still have dry skin, you can use a tiny bit of cream or even one of the oils mentioned above.
